Husband Appreciation

I feel excited to celebrate Thanksgiving this year because this is the first time since 2005 my husband has not had to work! With a renewed sense of gratitude, I want to do something different on the blog and introduce you to my family.

Havana 

Our oldest (well, there should be two children before her, but she is the first one the Lord ordained for us to bring home) is such a sweet, smart, and snuggly six-year-old girl. She loves music, singing, dancing, crafts, drawing, and learning.

Jonah

This four-year-old is one funny dude. Just like his father, he is pretty even tempered, so it can be challenging to know how he truly feels about something. His known passions are fire trucks, David and Goliath, and cutting ice (from Frozen).

Selah

This spunky three-year-old is a miniature version of her mother! She is either hot or cold, up or down. She spends her days pretending she is a cat or one of the Disney Princesses.

Asa 

My twenty-two-month-old loves his family. He is always happy to play with balls or trains, but has a strict rule that he will not accept being excluded from whatever his older siblings are doing.

Hezekiah 

I cannot believe my youngest is already 11 weeks old. He is a sweet and content little man who loves to snuggle, smile, and sleep. My only complaint is that his baby days are escaping far too quickly.

And, of course, the reason for all the cute little faces pictured above is the amazing man I married, Jason.

At the moment I am typing this, it feels quite natural to list all of his strengths and why I am so thankful to be his bride. However, the sad truth is that the majority of the year, I don’t live with such gratitude.

The bulk of my life I am either self-focused or child-focused so I am rarely aware of the gift of my husband.

Jason is often an afterthought because he is the least needy person in my life. I justify that because he is several years older and possesses an independent personality, he can take care of himself. I often forget that while my husband is a full grown man, he is also a dearly loved child of God. As a parent, I know that I want my children to grow up and marry someone who treats them well, appreciates all of their strengths, and has grace with their weaknesses. Knowing that, I can only imagine how the Lord, the perfect parent, desires for his child to be respected and appreciated by the woman who vowed to do so. If I want to honor God, I must love, respect and treat Jason kindly.

My relationship with Jason would drastically improve if I would consider him one of God’s precious children and then choose to treat him as I know God would want me to. Perhaps the best way to achieve my desire of continually living with the Thanksgiving spirit is to change how I view my husband.
